‘Gravewords’ was created to share my thoughts about working as a gravetender as well as other random stories and ideas. Tending graves gives me access to various cemeteries in the St. Louis, MO area and I’ve come find that they are very peaceful places (go figure). And also very quiet. Cemeteries are a perfect environment for meditation……I guarantee you won’t be disturbed! Try it sometime.

I know what you’re thinking…this blog is written by someone who visits cemeteries regularly and likes to meditate in them. Weird. Oh well. The other aspects of my life are fairly ‘normal.’ I manage to lead a happy, domestic life in the suburbs with Gravetender Hubby and Gravetender Baby. I eat out with friends often. I have hobbies – reading is #1 on my list (those who know me best say I have an unhealthy fascination with Stephen King books) and watching movies is #2 (those who know me best also say I watch too many horror and sci-fi flicks). Oh well.

I say that my desire to clean headstones and place fresh flowers on graves is just another aspect of my personality, one that brings about some balance to my other ‘normal’ life. Besides, have you been to a cemetery lately?? Some of these burial grounds are practically abandoned. It’s really quite sad. I just want to do my part to make sure our loved ones are not forgotten and that their final resting place is well maintained.

If you feel the same, feel free to say so in your comments. I hope you enjoy my posts! I look forward to your feedback.

Forever Yours,

Hi – do you continue to post on this blog? Interested in the upkeep of our own small town cemetery. Thanks, Terri M-S SK, Canada

Thank you so much for doing this work! Families used to make a family outing at least twice a year of taking care of family graves, but no one pays any mind to them any more. God bless you!
